Конкурсы для учащихся

ENGLAND

 

I. Famous people.
1. It is an internationally famous British pop group whose members during their most successful period in the 1960s were John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.
2. He is an English footballer who played for Manchester United and has been captain of the England team since 2001. In 2003 he left Manchester United to play for Real Madrid. He married Spice Girl Victoria Adams in 1999 and they are two of the most famous people in Britain.
3. He is the main character in a series of novels by Ian Fleming. He is an attractive British secret agent, who is also known as 007.
4. She is the queen of the United Kingdom since 1952.
II. Holidays.
1. The day when people in many countries play tricks or jokes on each other. A typical trick is to make somebody believe something that is not true.
2. British people celebrate it every year on the 5th of November in memory of a famous event in British history, the Gunpowder Plot. On the 5th of November in 1605 a group of Roman Catholic planned to blow up the Houses of Parliament while King James I was inside.
3. The Christian celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ which takes part on 25 December.
4. The 26th of December is the day after Christmas Day. It is a bank holiday. Traditionally it was the day when people gave Christmas boxes (small gifts of money ) to their employees or servants.
5. The night of 31 October, when people once believed that ghosts could be seen. Now in Britain and America, it is a time when children have parties, dress up as witches, make lanterns out of pumpkins from which the inside has been removed, and play trick or treat.
III. Places.
1. It is the bell in the clock tower of the British Parliament. Many people think wrongly that it is the name of the clock, or of the tower itself.
2. It is the official home of the British royal family in central London. It is a very large house, originally built in 1703 for the Duke of Buckingham. Many tourists stand outside this building to watch the ceremony of Changing the Guard, and since 1993 parts of the house have been opened to the public in the summer.
3. It is one of the oldest and most famous building in London. It was built by William the Conqueror more than 900 years ago. It was famous as a prison. Now it is a museum.
4. It is a bridge across the river Thames and one of the most famous structures in London. Its towers are in the Gothic style and the part of the bridge with the road on it can be raised to allow ships to pass through.
5. It is Britain’s most famous prehistoric monument. It consists of two circles of large standing stones, one inside the other.

Конкурс знатоков английского языка «Знаете ли вы Великобританию»

Цель: Познакомить обучаемых со странами Соединенного Королевства Великобритании и Северной Ирландии.

Задачи: Повысить интерес к изучаемому языку.

Ход мероприятия.

Первый конкурс - Приветствие команд

Второй конкурс – разминка (Warming-up), максимальное количество баллов – 5. Ведущий (Compere) по очереди задаёт командам вопросы (каждый правильный ответ – 1 балл).

On the British Isles.

2. What is its total area?

Over 244,000 square kilometers.

3. What countries is the UK made of?

England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

4. What is the capital of Northern Ireland?

Belfast.

5. What channel separates the British Isles from the European continent?

The English Channel.

6. What’s the highest mountain in Scotland?

Ben Nevis (1343 m).

7. What’s the longest river in Great Britain?

The Severn.

8. What’s the deepest river?

The Thames.

9. What is the climate of the British Isles influenced by?

The Atlantic Ocean and Gulf Streem.

10. What’s the UK’s population?

About 57 million.

11. What is the oldest part of London?

The City.

12. What is the permanent London residence of the Queen?

Buckingham Palace.

13. What is the home of the British Library?

The British Museum.

14. What is the seat of the British Parliament?

The Houses of Parliament.

What is a very important residential and industrial area of London?

The East End.

Additional Questions.

  1. What is the symbol of Northern Ireland?
  2. Why is Hyde Park called a very democratic park?
  3. What is there in Regent’s Park?
  4. What birds can you see in the Tower of London?
  5. What do you know about the Mansion House (It is the residence of the Lord Mayor of London)?

Дополнительные вопросы задаются командам, если их баллы одинаковы, или зрителям во время подведения промежуточных итогов и отдыха команд.

Далее следует основной конкурс. Команда, набравшая наибольшее количество баллов по результатам 2-х предыдущих конкурсов, выбирает первой конверт определённого цвета. Вопросы предлагаются в конвертах трёх цветов: красного, зелёного и желтого.

Наиболее сложные вопросы и задания в конверте красного цвета, их два и за каждый из них команда получает 3 балла.

  • What does Penny Black mean? (It is stamp. It came out in England and cost 1 penny. Its colour was black).
  • Listen to one of Shakespeare’s sonnets. What is its number? (Sonnet 130).

Готовясь к конкурсу, участники команд читали сонеты в переводе Маршака, чтобы справиться с данным заданием.

В зелёном конверте предлагаются три вопроса, которые оцениваются в 2 балла.

  • What ceremony do tourists watch at Buckingham Palace? When does it happen? (Changing the Guard at 11.30 a.m.)
  • What is the Houses of Parliament famous for? (It is the seat of the British government. It is famous for Big Ben, the most interesting clocks in the world. Etc.)
  • What can you see from Tower Bridge? And what do you know about it? (The Tower of London. It was a fortress, a royal palace and later a prison. It is a museum now. The ravens live in the Tower of London. The Legend says that without them the Tower will fall. Etc.)

На экране проицируются изображения упомянутые в вопросах достопримечательностей Лондона.

В жёлтом конверте предлагается 6 вопросов по 1 баллу за каждый.

  • What changes very often is Great Britain?
  • Who is the head of the UK?
  • How many grandsons has Queen Elizabeth II? (Two)
  • What is the historic, the governmental part of London? (Westminster)
  • Who founded the Tower of London? (Julius Caesar)
  • What is London’s favourite colour? (Red – The buses are red, the letter boxes are red, and the mail vans are all bright, bright red.)

Подведя итоги основного конкурса, судьи ( the judges) объявляют результаты и вручают командам дипломы особого образца за участие в конкурсе.

Подобная форма внеклассного мероприятия позволяет сочетать индивидуальную и массовую работу с обучаемыми и способствует достижению целей образовательного процесса по английскому языку.
